Salher has installed a wastewater treatment plant for the Gran Hospital in Coronel Oviedo, Paraguay
Gran Hospital de Coronel Oviedo is the new centre in Paraguay to be equipped with a Salher hospital wastewater treatment plant. RB Ingeniería has relied on the experience of the Spanish company to develop a WWTP of these characteristics and to manufacturing the equipment that make up the different phases of treatment.
The treatment of wastewater generated in hospitals, clinics and health centres is a task that requires extensive experience, given its potential environmental impact and risks to public health. Hospital wastewater can contain resistant bacteria and microorganisms, and other harmful substances such as mercury, anaesthetics, disinfectants or antibiotics.
Salher has been developing solutions for this water for more than 40 years. To do so, Salher first determines the daily pollution load of the flow, local regulations and the particular requirements of each project. For the implementation of the wastewater treatment plant for the Gran Hospital de Coronel Oviedo, in Paraguay, all previous studies have been carried out, taking into account the characteristics of the area and the client’s needs.
This WWTP starts with a pumping station that sends the wastewater to the pre-treatment system, a Taurus. From the rotating screen, the water reaches a first phase of lamellar settler system, for the sedimentation of suspended solids.
This is followed by the biological treatment phase using a moving bed reactor (MBBR) with nitrogen removal to eliminate organic matter, and ends with the second lamellar settling phase. Finally, the plant has a chlorination chamber for the final disinfection of the treated water.
